If it is sticky be sure to leach it before using. 2 Burnish clay onto a slick surface such as tile or glass so it holds in place. 3 Be sure to use some sort of release agent such as corn starch or water. I keep a small bottle of water handy and spritz the roller then roll it between my palms to be sure if even coverage and to prevent pooling. 4 Start roller in slightly from the edge to minimize the tendency for the clay to follow the roller. Also be sure to work from a clean edge. Especially in Mokume Gane with inclusions a tattered edge full of foil likes to catch in the roller so be aware! 5 I use firm pressure and small movements to roll across the clay for deep impression, kinda creeping the roller 1\/4 turn at a time with the tips of my fingers. For less deep impression I use the flat of my palm and roll slowly but fully across the clay. 6 Release pressure before the final edge.
